Melansir Wikipedia.com, sejak ia menemukan bahwa gurunya, Zainuddin Labay El Yunusy membuka bibliotek, atau perpustakaan penyewaan buku, Malik pun sering menghabiskan waktu membaca. Melalui buku-buku pinjaman, ia rajin membaca karya sastra terbitan Balai Pustaka, cerita Cina, dan karya terjemahan Arab. Usai membaca, Malik menyalin dengan versi tulisannya sendiri.
Karena kebiasaan itulah, sehingga mencatatkan namanya sebagai salah satu Satrawan Indonesia. Ia sempat berkarir sebagai wartawan, penulis dan pengajar, menjadikan Hamka memimpin Pedoman Masyarakat lewat karya-karya novel yang terkenal yakni Di Bawah Lindungan Ka’bah dan Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck.
Meskipun dalam masa perjalanannya menuntut ilmu yang ia sukai sangat sulit, Hamka tetap melangkah maju dan terus semangat menyuarakan karyanya melalui Pedoman Rakyat.
Teladan-teladan itulah yang harus kita amalkan. Kita rawat dan jaga terlebih sebagai guru maupun siswa. Semangat untuk terus belajar hal-hal baru menuangkan ide-ide kreatif dan melahirkan karya untuk diabadikan.
Hal ini sekaligus melecut semangat teman guru dan siswa untuk ikut berpartisipasi meramaikan Literasi Indonesia, sebagai bentuk apresiasi kita pula kepada para pahlawan yang telah gugur.
